Metro Detention Center guard is now in the custody of the jail that employs him, suspected of trying to smuggle drugs into the prison.
Authorities arrested 32-year-old corrections officer Anthony Kennedy on Tuesday following a two week long investigation after someone tipped off jail administrators that Kennedy might be bringing drugs inside.
Investigators say they found heroin, meth, marijuana, and tobacco on Kennedy when he showed up to work.
"We don't think this happened just one time. We think this has been a pattern. I believe the staff here believes that,” said BCSO Captain Gregg Marcantel.
Authorities say other corrections officers were helpful in providing information that led to Kennedy's arrest and have also arrested another suspect on outstanding warrants, who they say might have helped Kennedy get drugs on the outside.
The suspect, identified as Ruby Thompson, is not a jail employee. Samuel Lundvall, already in MDC custody, also faces charges in the investigation.
