Scarfo, the son of a convicted mob boss, was previously sentenced to 33 months in prison in a federal gambling case. Today’s indictment accused Scarfo of being a leader in the crime family, running its New Jersey faction and directing its gambling operations until 2007, he was ousted from his position, and Ralph Perna, 64, of East Hanover, took over.
In addition, two more reputed leaders — Joseph DiNapoli, 74, of Scarsdale and Matthew Madonna, 74, of Seldon, N.Y. — were indicted for their alleged role in the panel that runs the organization from New York."
